115. My Shadow’s Silhouette

Published on 15 March 2016 at 18:05

I had drawn a silhouette

on the backseat window

of my car, and it had

somehow come to life,

and attached itself to me,

then becoming my shadow.

And as I painted the outline

to a colorful glow,

the rainbow drops from above

scattered on the pavement

of a snow-covered landscape,

causing a sunshine avalanche,

to where we made our escape.

My shadow chased me,

as it had always done so before,

and even when the Sun is set,

and the Moon washes up on shore,

I thought I’d let you know,

that wherever I go,

my shadow will always

be there to follow me into

tomorrow, as I witnessed

the kiss that the melody

had given me.

And no matter how pleasant the tune,

of how I miraculously met you,

I’ll always say that it’s true,

that the letters upon my desk

show you at your best, and all the rest,

and I had my shadow write to you,

because I’d been too afraid,

that I might lose you in the midst

of giving up those warm Summer days

as I am lost in Winter’s frigid maze.

And when there are clouds in the sky,

my shadow vanishes for the night,

but I know that it will return,

for it is not only my companion,

but my friend, my silhouette,

that walks with me, side by side,

and that will follow me to the very

end of my long-lasting life,

each and every time.
