181. A Toy Soldier (In A World Of Paper Towns)

Published on 18 November 2016 at 14:15

I was once a toy soldier

in a world of paper towns.

Made of wax, I didn’t quite fit in.

That didn’t stop me from goin’ round

to look at all the paper people.

Their smiles were made thin,

and their eyes were torn apart.

Slits were cut into them,

I wondered if it was the same

for all their paper hearts.

I then felt my heavy chest,

and knew it was for the best

that I wasn’t made the same,

though soon enough it began to rain.

And this is what made us alike.

How fragile they were, our lives,

as we all began to melt away.

I knew then that we’d all fade

into what was once yesterday.

And it made me realize something.

In life, we may have not been the same,

but that would all soon change,

the day when we melt away.
